I'm not entirely sure why she told me that. I was just talking about the mobile I made for physics class. When I paused to take a breath, she told me how she felt about whether or not I should have children.
Most mobiles have weights and counter-weights so that the tiers hook together somewhere near the middle. I put a lot of weight at one end of one of the tiers and cantilevered until the level balanced. This way there is a large portion that just sticks out.
If the mobile is spinned, there is a pointed dowel spinning with a radius of about one meter. The way I think of it, the more the tier juts out, the easier it is to jab little children in the eyes.
I would have loved to have had something like this as a kid.
Either this mobile or a bag of broken glass.
